Curse of Monkey Island and the original Maniac Mansion were released before that without any kind of huge or active demand from the gaming community-without constant petitions or grass roots movements which are required in getting the attention for most IP holders these days.Ī seemingly complex deal to license or sell Day of the Tenticle, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango to Tim Schafer and Double-Fine for full-fledged technical upgrades was ironed out, and in Grim Fandango's case, given a lot of attention at Sony's conference a few years back. Clearly, they put in the effort and were supportive of a deal to get the weakest and most technically troublesome MI game in the franchise a re-release which happened just today. However, I don't quite understand where the pervasive idea that Disney will selfishly and aloofly suffocate its properties comes from. I feel you on your stance to MI3a completely you simply can't ignore the fact that the franchise hit some very quality highs post Ron Gilbert and survived well enough without a 'true' sequel to MI2.
